Why is Tex Mex food so popular?

Tex Mex dishes are some of the more familiar dishes because they were popularised in the border states in the US and spread out to other regions in America before coming to the UK and other countries. Tex Mex food is characterised by simply grilled meats, is not hugely spicy and features soft wheat tortilla wraps and lots of cheese – who can resist?!

Are tacos Tex Mex or Mexican?

Tacos originated in Mexico but the hard shell crunchy tacos popularised by the fast food restaurant chain Taco Bell originated in the US and are considered Tex Mex. Mexicans do eat hard shell tacos in the form of open faced tostadas.
