Zingy & Tangy Tomatillo Salsa

Our tomatillo salsa is made in Mexico for seriously fresh flavour.

We start with tomatillos which are also known as Mexican husk tomatoes. They may look like small green tomatoes but are closer in relation to a gooseberry with a bright, tart flavour used quite commonly in Mexican cooking. We blend fresh tomatillos with jalapenos, onion and coriander for a marvellously mild yet zingy and tangy salsa.

Try this magnificently mild tomatillo salsa spooned over some easy fish tacos, served with grilled salmon, scooped over a pulled pork burrito bowl, enjoyed with mushroom tacos.

Mix it with spicy chicken fajitas, dip with tortilla chips or simply stir it through guacamole for a zingy and tangy twist. The perfect accompaniment for good times with great friends.

What is a tomatillo?

A tomatillo of often gets mistaken as a green tomato. Nothing could be further from the truth. A close relative to a gooseberry, tomatillos with their acidic flavour are the backbone of Mexican cuisine. For more information on the Tomatillo check out our guide to tomatillos.

Why can the Tomatillo Salsa jar be so hard to open?

Sometimes people write in to us complaining that they can't open the jar of salsa. This problem is easily fixed once you know understand why this can occurs.
The tomatillo salsa is made in Mexico which is 2,250 meters above sea level. When the jars arrive in the UK (which is pretty much sea level) the difference in altitude creates a vacuum under the lid which can make the jar hard to open.

The solution is to gently tap the side of the lid. This creates a small dent, releasing the vacuum and the jar then easily opens!
