Are refried beans fried twice?

Refried beans, frijoles refritos in Spanish, means well-fried. Refried beans are cooked and then mashed with some additional flavouring such as chipotle, garlic or jalapeño to a thick consistency and then they are fried again.

What kind of beans are used in refried beans?

Gran Luchito uses pinto beans in their Chipotle Refried Beans but you can also use black beans.

What are the best store bought Refried Beans?
