Mexican Black Beans

Mexican Black Beans

There is no doubt that beans are a staple in Mexican culture, where almost daily a pot of freshly made beans with their broth is prepared and is waiting to be enjoyed by everyone in the family.

A favourite way of serving freshly cooked beans is straight from the pot with a bit of the broth, like some sort of stew. This is then followed by a simple garnish such as finely chopped onion, tomatoes, chillies or coriander. It’s such a simple and humble combination of flavours, yet so perfect.

Here at Gran Luchito, we have done all the work that cooking Mexican beans from scratch requires. Our lovely Gran Luchito Cantina Beans (black beans with their juices) are waiting for you to warm them up, and serve them as a quick lunch or lazy dinner.

We hope this will become a new favourite in your home too. Let us know how it goes!

FAQs

How do you cook Mexican black beans?

To cook Mexican black beans, start by soaking them overnight or using the quick soak method. Next, cook the beans with aromatics like onions, garlic, and bay leaves. Add spices like cumin, oregano, and chilli powder for flavour. Simmer until the beans are tender, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Or simply use our Cantina Beans.

What are some popular Mexican dishes that use black beans?

Black beans are a staple ingredient in many popular Mexican dishes such as burritos, tacos, enchiladas, and nachos. They can also be used as a filling for vegetarian empanadas or added to Mexican-style salads. Black beans add a rich flavour and texture to these dishes and are often paired with other ingredients like cheese, salsa, and guacamole.

Can I freeze Mexican black beans?

Yes, Mexican black beans can be frozen for later use. Allow them to cool completely before transferring them to airtight containers or freezer bags. Label them with the date and use within 3-4 months for best quality. To thaw, place the frozen beans in the refrigerator overnight or defrost them in the microwave on a low setting.
