A tinga is really a stew, prepared in a special way. It contains tomatoes, onion, garlic, smoky chipotle, oregano, bay leaf and thyme, as well as a sweet touch from the piloncillo sugar if you're able to find it.

Is chicken tinga healthy?

Yes! Chicken is a lean protein, and the rest of the ingredients are super fresh. Feel free to wrap these in lettuce if you want to keep them low carb. They can also easily be modified to be both dairy-free and paleo if you omit the sour cream. The sauce is dairy and gluten-free, with no added sugar.

What does tinga mean in Mexican food?

Chicken tinga is a dish that originated in the city of Puebla, Mexico. “Tinga,” meaning stew made up of tomatoes, onion, garlic and smoky chipotle, with oregano, bay leaf and thyme.
