Our founder and El Capitan, Fergus, had travelled in Mexico and been blown away by the variety and quality of the food.
Frustrated by the complete lack of quality Mexican food in UK supermarkets, he decided to do something about it.
It all started in Oaxaca
Fergus travelled to Oaxaca, a small Spanish colonial town in Southern Mexico which is known for its fantastic architecture and equally amazing food.
The signature flavour of the cooking in this region is the deep, rich flavour of smoked chilies.
The best quality fresh ingredients
As a trained chef and real food lover, Fergus set about creating Gran Luchito. A brand that could deliver the authentic taste of Mexico to kitchens around the world. Right from the start, he was determined to work with local Mexican suppliers to make the best quality possible.
No shortcuts, just the best quality Mexican ingredients, traditional recipes and trusted cooking techniques. And so was born Gran Luchito, meaning ‘Great Little Fighter’.
From market stall to supermarket
At first Fergus only sold Gran Luchito at the weekend from a stall in East London’s Maltby Street Market. But buoyed by the enthusiasm of early buyers he decided to make it his full-time vocation.
You can now find Gran Luchito in the Mexican section at major high street supermarkets, health stores and independent local stores. You can also find us in quality food shops around the world.
