Getting Gran Luchito Out There
By the end of the summer 2012, Gran Luchito had been created. We knew we had a great product but no one else did. The next challenge was getting it out there!
In the last blog, we told you a little about how Gran Luchito came to life with a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. Leaving the sun behind him, Fergus returned to the UK with jars containing the first batch of Mexican Magic.

Gran Luchito began life in the UK at Maltby Street market in Bermondsey, South-East London in December 2012.
“The direct connection with the consumer was a fantastic way to start as we got instant feedback on the product. And thankfully, the feedback was great. People loved it.”
It began selling at almost twice our forecasted volume which meant that it went out of stock pretty quickly. Running dry by January and waiting for replenishments to arrive from Mexico, Fergus went about putting together a plan for how to get his little jars into the shops.
“We started with London Delis. Massive shout out to huey at the wonderful deli Bambuni in Nunhead for being our first customer.”
It wasn’t long before it was picked up by Rick Stein, Ottolenghi and over 60 independent farms shops and delis nationwide.

Things were happening quickly at this point, and in August, Gran Luchito Smoked Chilli Paste was given 2 stars at the Great Taste Awards.
Next up was Marks and Spencer, who started selling Gran Luchito from September 2013 in 97 of their stores nationwide.
Fast forward a couple of years to the present day and plenty more has happened. Gran Luchito is now available in Ocado, Tesco, Booths, and independent delis and farm shops up and down the UK. What’s more, the brand has gone international and can now be found in Sweden, Ireland, USA and from this September, ‘down under’ in Australia. Along the way. we’re also lucky enough to have been featured in some great publications too, including The Guardian, The New York Times, Jamie Magazine, The Telegraph, Olive, Delicious and Metro.
